Restraints??!
Question:
Restraints??
Do doctors use restraints on patients because they are convenient or because they actually help prevent the patient from hurting him/herself?
Answers:
Restraints are only used when absolutely necessary. If the patient is at risk of hurting themselves or others they may put into restraints for a short period of time until they calm down but this is mostly for psych wards and emergency rooms.
If necessary, there are softer restraints that can be used to keep patients, sometimes children from pulling out IVs after surgery; but these are rare and in any case any patient with restraints has to be constantly monitored which is very time-consuming and very inconvenient for the staff.
