Is it possible to meet the criteria for borderline personality disorder but not !
Question:
Is it possible to meet the criteria for borderline personality disorder but not have it?
Is it possible to meet the DSM V criteria for BPD, and yet not have the disorder, because the behavior is caused by another disorder (ie. bipolar)?
Answers:
One can be dual diagnosed with both - the difference is that Borderline Personality Disorder does not have mood lability - in other words, the moods do not fluctuate between mania and depression.
If a person with Borderline Personality also exhibits mania and/or depression - that would be a dual diagnosis.
I read that neuroleptic drugs did a good job in stabilizing Borderline symptoms but mood stabilizers do a better job in treating the mood swings.
