I think I have PMDD?!

Question:

I think I have PMDD?

I used to think I just had a bad PMS but I am usually a really nice, fairly optimistic person, but about a week before my period I turn into a different person, I am depressed, I cry all the time, I feel like I am never going to succeed in life and everything is hopeless. I feel like my friends and family hate me. It happens every month and then right after I am totally fine and I don't understand why I acted like such a crazy person and why I thought such thoughts, but then it happens again...I heard if I take birth control that could help... does it?

Answers:

It definitely sounds like you have PMDD. I am a therapist and had a client who was experiencing similiar feelings. I suggested she talk to her gyno. about it. She did and got a prescription for Serafem, which is an antidepressant especially helpful for PMDD. Taking the pill may also help. If you want to try a natural approach, google "natural treatments for PMDD" . You could also talk to a holistic doctor. Good luck and know that you aren't going crazy, you just feel like you are!
