hi recently my gp prescribed me to start taking efexor the anti-deppressant in the ssri group for my anxiety,i was just wondering if you could drink alcohol whilst taking it, don't get me wrong i don't mean all day benders or loads of beer, i was just wondering if it would be ok to have a couple beers of a night or maybe a couple glasses of wine once my kids were in bed?also does it have any effect on the medication? thanks

Well Dave, I really want you to understand exactly what Effexor really is. Effexor is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) used to treat depression, generalized anxiety disorder , and social anxiety disorder effective. If you would like to see the results of Effexor, you must take it consistently and it would be best to take it without any alcohol. There are some side effects which would include; high blood pressure, aggigation, irritabiliy, hostility, agressiveness, and restlessness. Alcohol may elevate the side effects. It is not a great idea to drink wine or beer.
