What are the negetive and positive effects of taking anti-phycotic medicine?!

What are the negetive and positive effects of taking anti-phycotic medicine?

I will proboly have to take them, has anyone ever taken them before, what are your experiences with taking them?

I've been on Risperdal for going on six months now. There are a few side effects but I find that the benefits from taking the medication far outweight the side effects.

Pros: I don't have paranoid thoughts anymore. In combination with prozac it has greatly reduced my anxiety and depression. My quality of life is greatly improved.

Cons: Weight gain. I've probably put on 10 lbs since I've started taking the medication. It's mostly because the meds slow down your metabolism. Try to be active and watch what you eat. The medication also does make me drowsy so to remedy that, I take it at night.

I know lots of people on this site are anti-meds but I must say they have helped me out a lot.
