Two questions:
1) What is the half-life of Xanax in the body?
2) If one were to take 19 mg of Xanax over the course of 12 hours, is it possible for the transfer of short-term memories to long-term to be impaired during the course of the overdose?

No, I don't use nor am I planning on taking an overdose of Xanax. I would think the reference to "19 mg over the course of 12 hours" would have made it clear I was referring to a specific incident. Thank you for the one serious answer.

The half life range is 6 to 20 hours following single dose administration.
Overdose
Symptoms:
Manifested as an extension of alprazolam's pharmacologic activity. Varying degrees of CNS depressant effects such as somnolence and hypnosis can occur. Other manifestations may include muscle weakness, ataxia, dysarthria and particularly in children paradoxical excitement. In more severe cases diminished reflexes, confusion and coma may ensue. It should be remembered when treating an overdose that multiple agents may have been ingested. Fatalities with benzodiazepines rarely occur except when other drugs, alcohol or aggravating factors are involved.
