Help! Have a medical question. Need some advice.?!

Question:

Help! Have a medical question. Need some advice.?

My grandma is 85 and has a bit of dementia. she has recently fallen and is in the hospital with a cracked pelvic bone. she is unable to walk but is so confused she keeps trying to get out of bed. does anyone have any suggestions (other than to tie her down and leave) on how to help make her stay easier. she is fighting us,the doctors, and nurses. medication for pain or tranqulizers make her worse. one of us has to stay with her at night in the hospital so she won't crawl out, fall or be scared. she loves her doctor, but he hasen't been to supportive to my family. my family and i are at are wits end here.if anyone has some ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. i can't stand to see her suffering and it is taking its toll on my mother and aunt. they want to keep her for a few weeks and its only been a few days, and it has been a constant fight to keep her in bed. serious answers only please, i can't take anymore nonsense. thank you.

Answers:

Find a black rug a put it in front of her door . This to a person with dementia looks like a hole in the ground . Also putting a red stop sign on her door can work.
One of the local hospitals here does this with dementia patients. It does work for some.
Sometimes meds like ativan ect can make a confused person worse as they get even more confused . It is very stressful and frustrating .
See if her insurance will cover an aide to sit with her (sometimes medicare will) so you and your family can get some rest . It will make a world of difference .
Unfourtunatly for someone that confused sometimes restraints are what you end up using as a last resort and for safty . I know they can seem cruel but having her climb out of bed and fall again could result in further injury
