Is paranoia considered a metal illness?

Paranoia in itself is not considered a mental illness but it is a symptom of more than one mental illnesses. Not everyone who is paranoid has paranoid schizophrenia. If paranoia is effecting a persons way of life, keeping one from doing what one would normally do, without a realistic cause then it could be a symptom of a mental problem / illness. On the other hand, sometimes there are valid reasons to be paranoid. Say a gang member has it in for you. You would be wise to be paranoid. Hope this helps.
