How can I get back my motivation?!

Question:

How can I get back my motivation?

I work, 30 hours a week and enjoy my job. No problem there! My motivation disappears when I walk through the front door.
I have a partner who has not worked for the last 2.5 years. He does cook and he hoovers, sometimes which is great but most of the time he reads newspapers and magazines, all day! I come home and because he is sitting there, I sit there. I really want to get on with things like decorating, cleaning our damp mouldy bathroom tidying up the place, washing the curtains and cleaning the windows. But, I acheive nothing because I have no motivation.
I have tried making a list of things that need doing but, when written down, it is so overwhelming, I just can't face it.
I have tried ticking off as I go but it is still too overwhelming so I give up.
I really need help with this, I don't feel depressed just unable to cope.

Answers:

It is quite easy...make smaller lists.

First take that humongous list that overwhelms you and break it down into "Jobs for Him" and "Jobs for Me".

Then break it into categories..."Jobs that need doing immediately", "Jobs that can wait a week", "Jobs that need to wait for funding", and "Things I'd LIKE done that aren't necessary". Do that for both HIS list and MY list.

Then make up four new lists for each of you, with those headings, and DATE THEM.

Then post the most immediate lists on the fridge "Jobs that need doing immediately--HIM" and "Jobs that need doing immediately--HER". That way your partner has no excuse for not doing his jobs (because they are posted out in plain sight. And you will have the motivation to get on with yours, because you will see that he is keeping up with his (I hope).

Then, once both of those lists are finished for both of you, you post the new listings. Of course, the "Jobs that can wait a week", have now become the "Jobs that need doing immediately" because of the time that has passed, but at least they are GETTING DONE! Yes?
