Does it feel like your heart drops when you're in public?

It's weird. I know it has a lot to do with nerves, but every time I get ready to walk inside a department store or even a restaurant, my heart feels like it drops. Or even when I'm at home and I'm simply thinking about going somewhere in public my chest begins to feel funny. It makes simple tasks more stressful than they need to be. Yeah, it's probably just me getting nervous, but it's annoying. It was really bad when I began my first semester in college. I even drank large gulps of wine prior to going to my classes (I know, it's crazy, but someone told me that wine could calms nerves). Alas, the wine didn't help at all. Does this trouble anyone else?

I'm pretty sure it deals with nerves and anxiety. I'm just wondering how to deal with it.
