Is this unusual?
whenever i hear any kind of sound, like someones voice or a bell or a song it always has a color. like one kind of sound sounds like one color, and another sounds like a different color. and sometimes when talkin about music ill refer to "the purple song" by mistake instead of the name because thats how i think of it. i thought this was normal but i mentioned it to my mother and she said shes never had that happened and never heard of it

It sounds like you have a condition called synesthesia/synaesthesia. It is involuntary (i.e. automatic), so you would think of it as normal. There are several different forms.
