Can somone explain autism?!

Question:

Can somone explain autism?

ive never understood it...

Answers:

Autistic people tend to have sensory integration problems, so that the world often overwhelms them. Part of their problem is that they have trouble reading/interpreting other people's emotions and such. Because of the two things above, they tend to want to retreat into themselves to stay calm, as well as rock or make repetitive movements, because those things are calming too and give them a sense of control. Because people tend to try to force these kids to behave normally even though they're overwhelmed by the world those kids often become depressed and aggressive as well.

Basically, imagine being really tired and then put in some really busy event in some very foreign culture that you don't speak the language of and then having to deal with people that get upset with you for not behaving like the locals do. That's kinda like what the life of autistic kids is like. Overwhelming, you can't make sense of anything and you just want to be alone and relax. Depending on how severe their handicap is and what kind of help they get they can either learn to cope fairly decently over time or not, but social skills tend to remain the hardest part for them.
