Does it ever seem like you forget time periods of your life?!

Question:

Does it ever seem like you forget time periods of your life?

I got out of a 7 year relationship a year ago ( with kids). And sometimes I feel as if it never happened, sometimes people tell me things about it that I completly forgot about, I try to think about good and bad times and the thoughts just don't come in,I do remember some but i feel like I should rememeber more I'm like that with other things too, Once I even forgot a family member died. I get over things very quickly too and I think its because of this. Sometimes I feel like I'm living on auto pilot, don't get me wrong I'm pretty happy with my life, but when things happen it feels like I take it in, but then lose it. Usually anything emotional, even happy moments. Anyone else ever feel this way?

Jane I know how you feel, as the same thing happens to me, I believe a lot of it is caused by stress, and I have had a lot of that in my life, I was at my sisters wedding 15 years ago and the only reason I know I was there is because I have photo's, I don't remember it at all. I also don't remember the dates of my grandma's or my dad's deaths. If your relationship had very few "Shared Happy Memories" if there were not a lot of "we" moments that you can look back on with happy nostalgia, then it is hard to look back on it as part of you life, I often feel "detached", not from reality, but from people, I have no real emotional connections to anyone besides my kids, no friends at all, I kid you not, and my family choose not to have anything to do with me, I have no-one to connect with who shares and knows about my "history". Low grade depression can affect your memory as can a vitamin B deficiency. I must say though that I had Meninngococal Septicemia a few years ago and that has affected my memory somewhat, but I find It is my short term memory, not long term that is most affected. Have you had any serious, or life threatening illnesses, in the last 10 years or so?.
Loneliness is also a huge contribute to this problem, you can be surrounded by people but still feel lonely if you don't feel connected to any of them in some way, perhaps a trip to the doctor, to rule out or treat depression, and the only other thing I can offer is, Hugs, Tea and Sympathy.
