Haldol serquel and a few others.?!

Question:

Haldol serquel and a few others.?

what do you call it when you have side affects from these meds it makes me have a fast rapid heart beat and cant keep still. but zyperxia has no side affects. should i tell my doctor.

Answers:

You should tell your doctor about any side effects you are having. Before you go to the doctor, write down a set of questions to ask, such as:
How long will these side effects last?
Are these side effects a risk to my health?
Is there a medication that will work just as good with less side effects?
Is there anything I can do to minimize these side effects, like taking it at a specific time?

Older antipsychotics, like haldol will cause extrapyramidal symptoms, which can include a rapid heart beat and restlessness. Doctors will usually prescribe a medication, like benztropine, in tandem to haldol to specifically address these symptoms.
The newer antipsychotics, like Zyprexa, are not without side effects, like fatigue, weight gain, and an increased risk for diabetes, but the extrapyramidal symptoms are less frequent. Again, you should discuss with your doctor what your options are and what you can do to minimize your side effects (like if you're taking zyprexa, minimizing weight gain through exercise and diet).
