Answers:

It depends on your doctor, some might ask more questions than others. Basically, our doctor will ask you some questions about your life in general, like when you feel anxious, how often, how intense, how much it influences your life, do you avoid certain activities in order to avoid becoming anxious, etc. Just describe why you believe you've got GAD, give examples of situations in your life where your anxiety has bothered you.

Depending on what you tell your doctor he might ask some more questions to see whether you might have other mental problems as well or not, such as depression (GAD can lead to depression), or whether you've got a panic disorder, schizophrenia or paranoia or anything. It took my psychiatrist less than 10 minutes iirc to diagnose me with GAD and dysthymia and prescribe an SSRI. No specific 'tests' done.

So it's really easy and straightforward, nothing to worry about. Do ask your doctor for a referral to a psychologist though for some counseling... drugs treat the symptoms, therapy treats the cause. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is good, and a good book to read yourself would be The Feeling Good Handbook (or Feeling Good) by David Burns.

Good luck. :)
