Help identifying a psychological pattern..?!

Question:

Help identifying a psychological pattern..?

I'm looking for help to identify a psychological pattern that's evident in one of my very good friends.. some suggestions on how to help would be really appreciated too.
Here's what I've noticed:
There's a regular turnover of jobs and friends. At first everything is awesome but as time passes, well after the "new-ness" wears away, problems build up. Unfortunately it's a cumulative buildup with no outlet, no reconciliation. As the buildup progresses, a critical mass is reached.. a point where as the stress builds, communication fails, and perception rampantly turns black. Almost anything said or done is interpreted as an attack. The only final solution is to get out of the situation, and quit.. or get rid of the friend, etc.
It just seems there's something missing. It's like there's only 3 emotions present: Normal (Happy), Mad, and Sad.

Forgive my ignorance in psychology.. I'm an engineer and am an emotional moron.. but I care very much about this person and want to help if I can

Answers:

First of all.....you are a good friend and a wonderful person. Second...you can't fix them, only they can fix themself. So, the more you interfere...(that's enabling) the longer you can help them to pursue a misguided life style. So, my suggestion to you would be to detach...some. Let them make their own decisions and DO NOT clean up their messes. Most people have to hit bottom before they can pick themselves up. AND...those people that hit bottom...come up stronger and wiser. Hang on..from a distance. And...my best suggestion would be to pray for them. God will help...stand back and let him. Hugs to you...good person.
