I'm Afraid Of How My Parents Will React If I Tell Them I Think I Have Anorexia?!

Question:

I'm Afraid Of How My Parents Will React If I Tell Them I Think I Have Anorexia?

I asked a question a few days ago about whether or not I was anorexic, and a few people said I was. I looked into it and I show a lot of the symptoms and stuff. I'm always cold, hardly eat, lie about what I have eaten, and feel that I'm fat even when people call me thin.

The problem is it's really freaking me out and I wanna tell my parents but I don't know how to really go about doing it and I'm afraid of how they might react to it.

Is there an easy way to say it without giving them a shock or not getting a bad reaction?

(16 year old male.)

Answers:

If you think you have a problem, you should get help. Your parents should appreciate you telling them what is going on. They will probably be more concerned than shocked. Even though they might be surprised, they will have to accept this so that they can help you. Your parents are there to help you not to hurt you, so you should tell them RIGHT AWAY!! Tell them what is going on in a calm voice and try to tell them that you do not want this and that you are as scared as they are. Say, "Mom, Dad. I don't want you to judge me by what I'm about to tell you. I just need you to listen and help me. I think that I am becoming anorexic but I don't know what to do . I am as scared as you are, this has been going on for a little while, but I didn't tell you because I was afraid that you would judge me because of this and I was also afraid of how you might react. Please can you help me, I need you more than ever right now."And remember that no matter what happens to you, your parents will ALWAYS love you. If you still need help, contact a counselor immediately. If your still scared, you can start by talking to your school counselor and ask her what you should do. But you really need to tell an adult that you can trust to help you. Anorexia is hard to get over but just remember that you are not the only one that is going through this.
