How newspaper reading therapy works to mentally ill patients?!

Question:

How newspaper reading therapy works to mentally ill patients?

Answers:

For the severely mentally ill, I could see reading a newspaper or any other reading being therapeutic because reading can help to jumpstart the brain better than watching TV or some other mindless activity. Perhaps even a better reason is that reading current events can help keep a person in touch with reality. People suffering from severe mental illness often lose touch with reality and begin talking about nonsense. Reading current events can help keep them in today's time. Good question though.
