Physical conditions VS mental?!

Question:

Physical conditions VS mental?

If Alzheimers causes euphoria, Oxycontin (pain relief drug) causes apathy and a B12 deficiency can cause the feeling of guilt, then is there a condition out there that can cause the feeling of being in love? And what is it?

Answers:

Mania makes a lot of people feel in love.

Alzheimer's rarely makes people euphoric. It depends on someone's underlying personality. People who are used to controlling things don't tolerate the confusion of Alzheimer's well at all. I think I've seen the irritability from this more than any other emotion in Alzheimer's patient. Next would be fear and anxiety. Some people with Alzheimer's are quite pleasant and content. I suppose they were always that way, but it's usually hard to get any information about that.

I doubt B12 deficiency ever has caused guilt. Almost everyone has guilt. Maybe that has gotten accentuated in someone's confusion from B12 deficiency, but that's very different from saying a lack of B12 causes guilt.

Oxycontin does make people not care. I've never taken it, but I got Demerol in the ER once for passing a kidney stone. That was wonderful. I think I'd still care, though. I'd just be very slow about it.

The brain creates the mind, but not every aspect of the mind is explained by some simple element of biology. Everywhere neuroscientists study how animals control movements and make decisions about that, neurons do things much more collectively and in a complicated way than people guess just thinking how they'd build a thinking machine to do it. We do have a personality that is more than the sum of our physical parts, maybe not more than our physical parts plus a lifetime of experience, but it's more complicated than the simple relationships you're making.
