Ritalin and no appetite?!

Question:

Ritalin and no appetite?

I just started taking Concerta (time-released Ritalin) for adult ADHD and I am having difficulty eating and am losing weight. My doctor told me this would happen but I wanted to know if my decreased appetite will go away with time. Is there anything I can do to boost my appetite? I must also mention that having an alcoholic drink (usually a beer) before meals helps my appetite but I don't want to make a habit out of this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. May God bless each and every one of you.

Answers:

These drugs are similar to diet pills, hence the loss of appetite. The good thing is, you will build up a tolerance to them soon and should find your appetite returning. In the mean time, you may just have to force yourself to eat at mealtime. Try to get some protein in your diet so that you don't lose muscle mass. Also, try eating more frequently. Good luck.
