Why does a teenager self mutilate?
yes i know she has problems. but if she is smart enough to know the solutions and accepts things. how do you ncope with her and what should be done until she sees a trained specialst? please provide a website for further readings.

for me, i started cutting to feel something..anything...even if it was pain. it varies depending on the person. maybe she feels overwhelmed due to her problems and cutting provides that release. yes, it sounds odd. cutting actually feel good in a strange way. as for ways to cope with cutting, she needs to find another way to release her stress in a more productive manner. ie talking with family and friend or maybe a therapist. keep a close eye on her.
btw, as the lady noted above...cutting is usually never a result to be "cool" or "get attention". a cutter does not typically proudly display their scars. they are always hidden. there's no way in hell i would go out without selves with my torn up shoulders. way too much negative attention.
