Taking Seroquel?!

Question:

Taking Seroquel?

I have a severe anxiety disorder among other things and my doctor prescribed Seroquel. I am already taking prozac which controls my feelings of anger/agitation, but I still feel "on edge" because of my anxiety, like I may have a panic attack at any moment. I am a little worried about taking this new medication, especially since I have read about people having lawsuits because of it causing diabetes. Has/Is anyone taking it? What are the side effects? Does it help?

Answers:

I am a professional caregiver, 4 of the people I serve take seroquel. They seem to get significant relief of their anxiety symptoms, without any adverse effects worse than dry mouth. I see that the Seroquel website does advise talking with your doctor about monitoring one's blood glucose levels while taking the medication if one has risk factors for diabetes. It is always a good idea to keep in touch with your doctor about the side effects you experience with any medications you take - that is as important as the symptoms of the conditions you have. If you do not discuss side effects with your doctor, she or he will have no way to know if there is a concern.

Another excellent resource for discussion about the side effects of medications is your pharmacist - they often have much better information and insight into the potential side effects than doctors do. I encourage you to ask your pharmacist about this, as well as bringing up any other meds you are taking, so he or she can get the whole picture.

Best wishes whatever decision you make regarding this medication choice.
