What's it like to have hallucinations?!
Question:
What's it like to have hallucinations?
I mean i understand it can be scary but what do you hear, see, sense etc, sometimes i think i experience them but i'm not sure, how do you know if you really are experiencing a hallucination?
Answers:
A hallucination can be described as seeing things or hearing things that others do not- most hallucinations seem real, therefore you would not know that you were hallucinating. Auditory hallucinations are "voices" or other sounds that you "hear", typically from in your own head- but sometimes you may "hear" inanimate objects speaking to you, or the television or radio may "speak" directly to you. Or you may hear a person "speaking" to you, even if they are not. Visual hallucinations are more rare- and usually faint- shadows, "spirits" etc. Tactile hallucinations are sensory- feeling bugs on your skin that are not there, smelling odors that dont exist. A delusion is a thought process- believing things that are not real, such as that the neighbor is a spy, or that people are "listening" to you through secret devices. If you are not sure if you are hallucinating, you should see a doctor for an assessment- just to be sure. Hallucinations and Delusions can be symptoms of a psychotic disorder, such as schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder, and can get worse quickly, but can be effectively treated with medications and therapy.
