I have spoken to my pdoc about this in my meet with him this afternoon. He told me it depends but they both can be effective forms of treatment. I am wanting to get so stories from folks who have lived through taking them both, hoping to gain more insight.

Answers:

I don't know about Cymbalta, but contrary to what the doc will tell you, the withdrawal when they ease you off of Effexor is hell. It took Prozac to get off of Effexor. You are talking about a low dose - they will probably start you at that dose and increase it. That dose is typically not real effective. You WILL become terribly constipated on Effexor and it didn't really help on it's own. When combined with Wellbutrin, it helped with the depression - I received it after having a baby and having some terrible hormonal repercussions. They also use it to treat menopause symptoms. I recommend avoiding Effexor. Wellbutrin on it's own however, was really good.
