What is the average time to get off of Prozac?!

Question:

What is the average time to get off of Prozac?

is it 10 months ?

Answers:

Assuming it's working and you are tolerating it without annoying side effects, most docs recommend a minimum of 6 to 9 months, if you were receiving it for a first episode of depression. But you asked what the average is, and that's actually a tougher question. Many people choose not to come off as quickly as 6 - 9 months, being concerned about slipping back into depression. A wild guess would be that people who have responded well to Prozac tend to stay on it for 12 - 18 months before either asking their doc to wean them off or weaning themselves off. And then another subset of people ask to go back on it after they've been off it for a couple of months.
