Eating disorder?!

Question:

Eating disorder?

so....I am a pre-med student and my boyfriend is also going into med. and obsessed with nutrition and working out. Needless to say, I am a very healthy conscious person. I work out, eat very well--but apparently things changed.

Problem is, in the course of 1 WEEK i went from being 107 lbs to 120.120 may not sound like a lot but thats a dramatic change. I can't/wont stop eating, even if I'm stuffed. I've gone 2 days str8 with only eating pizza and cheesecake...I know what my problem is: I'm over eating, eating crap, and not working out! I just don't know what to do about it; I think this has turned into a mental problem I don't know how to overcome. All I want is junk food, even if I don't want it, I feel compelled to buy/eat it. I'm tired, my boyfriend and I have not been sexual in 2 months (we're cramed with school!) and I'm always studying (never in a bikini or ne thing 2 show off my stomach) so I guess I feel like "whats the point, no 1's ganna see it" but its really upseting me.

Answers:

You sound really upset, and you may be using food in an attempt to calm yourself. If you're a med student, then you know that when you eat, you trigger the parasympathetic nervous system. So, look to see what's over stimulating your sympathetic nervous system, like too much stress with school, and serious burnout. Slow down! Seduce your boyfriend, sleep in, remember what regular life is like. Listen to your body with compassion and hear what it is saying to you.
You must be very intelligent to be where you are - use that for yourself for a while! Be as attentive to your own symptoms as you're supposed to be to future patients.
What you learn in all of this will make you a much better physician.
