Why do we depend on anti-depressants?!

Question:

Why do we depend on anti-depressants?

I asked my mom if I could get any but she didn't want me to get any because she said I'll depend on it. And that it's not the answer.

Answers:

Well, we don't depend on them.

Mental illness is a brain disorder. There are physical changes in the brains of depressed people that are not seen in others.

It's possible for people to change their brain chemistry naturally but it's very rare and extremely difficult. If it were easy then we'd have no need for therapists or pills - neither of which actually solve all of our problems.

Your mom needs to learn more about medicine and understand that they are not just a "crutch" for people to use when life becomes difficult. If someone can't even get out of bed to fix their life and they're always thinking of suicide, then medication can be fundamental to the recovery process.
