I'm literally in tears now...?!

I'm literally in tears now...?

I;m a 21 year old college student, and well....
There is this course I took in fall 2006, and I was very good at it, and I even used to help my classmates with homework and such. However, I got a failing grade for it, because I was too sick to take the exam. I took that course in spring 2007, but I could not make myself open the book, because it reminded me of that bad time.... of getting a failing grade for a course I was expecting to get an A on. So I got a withdraw grade on that course.
Now I am taking this course, and I was not as hopeless. Now, I am supposed to do my second homework, and I can not find the book. It just disappeared from the table?! I looked everywhere. I can not find it. Now, the hw is due tomorrow, and I'm clueless about what to do. I also have the test on thursday, and I can not afford to buy another book on such short notice.
I'm wondering why something always goes wrong with this course. Do I need to drop it again?

in most Australian unis, they give you special consideration for this. You would never fail a subject you werre getting an A in (or as we would call it, an HD) even if you missed an exam. Thats an imbalance to put so much on the exam.
