Answers:

It appears that some people are genetically predisposed to have bipolar disorder and that the brain is the center of the illness. Yet not everyone with the genetic tendency displays bipolar disorder, so several other factors must be involved in producing the illness. These other environmental and psychological factors are called triggers. Although triggers may set off a bipolar episode in someone predisposed to the disorder, most bipolar episodes occur without an obvious trigger.
