Why are there no telethons for schizophrenia?!

Question:

Why are there no telethons for schizophrenia?

While I have seen some good charity events for serious mental illness (especially by NAMI) they are not the high-profile events that you see for other illnesses, like breast cancer. Schizophrenia and other serious mental illness disable millions of of people in America and suicide is one of the leading causes of death for people under 50 years of age.
Mental illnesses can be treated like other illnesses and funds are needed for treatment and research.

Answers:

There are lots of illnesses without telethons- where is the Crohn's disease telethon? Or the prostate cancer one? We could have oen every night of the week if we wanted to, but that would diminish them overall. I agree that mental health and schizophrenia are major problems that could use more attention, but I dont know that a telethon is required.
