I was just wondering if there is any hope for me.?!

Question:

I was just wondering if there is any hope for me.?

I have had a major problem with falling asleep lately. My biggest issues are work right now. They are not happy with my sales productivity, they also want me shaking hands, and I don't like doing that. So, mgmt is not really happy with me at work right now. Some other really stupid issues, such as last month I had a bad cough and was congested, kept coughing in my sleep, got startled one day thinking a wild cat was going to come into the house, and lastly my husband was saying I made noises in my sleep when I was congested with the cough. I keep trying to figure out what is keeping me up, and can't figure it out. Now I am obsesses with thinking about it.l Any advice please.

Answers:

It sounds to me like you have 2 different things going on. When you have a cold/cough it is difficult to sleep because the congestion interferes with your breathing- hence the noises your husband pointed out. Stress at work is also a reason to have difficulty sleeping- completely different from your cough. Stress and anxiety can cause insomnia as well as bad/weird dreams. I have a couple suggestions: One remove the stress, are you sure that this job is the one for you? Don't quit unless you are sure it's not right and not until you have another job lined up. In the mean time, try some sleep inducing techniques. Calcium supplements taken at bedtime can have a calming effect- they help me every time. Chamomile tea (decaffeinated) also can help or chamomile lotion rubbed on your neck, hands, every where so you can smell it while lying down. Peaceful music or a warm bath before bed. Regular exercise and proper diet is the best thing. Exercise right before bed can make insomnia worse but you could try this right when you get home from work or in the a.m. Another supplement that might help is called Valerian Root, it is available at health food stores or through the Shaklee corporation. Get to the real issue of your stress and anxiety and get rid of it by changing jobs or by dealing with it head on- correcting the things that your boss wants you to correct to improve your job- will get rid of the stress and then sleep will come. Your body is telling you that there is something wrong and your body will not relent until the wrong is corrected. Good luck!
