Is this derealization?!
Question:
Is this derealization?
Hey, about a year ago I started experimenting with ecstacy. I woke up one morning feeling extremely spaced out, everything seemed less real and I wandered around feeling as if i was a zombie with no emotion. This state of mind lasted a couple of weeks then started to fade away (either that or I got used to feeling like a zombie all of the time), however I've never felt totally alert like i was before this experience. Now, a year down the line i feel as if im a totally different person; i have trouble socialising with even close friends who i've known for years as it feels as if im thinking slowly all of the time, and i haven't had a truely stimulating (emotionally or intellectually) conversation since - which is something i miss very much as i find that it's very hard to "relate" to anyone as i used to be able to do so easily.
Does this sound like derealization to anyone?
Answers:
it could be that the ecstasy use changed the chemical break-up in your body and that you are actually a bit different now. it is not uncommon for some drugs to ignite some disorders that may manifest more quickly than if a persons didn't do drugs.
having said that, it might be that you are experiencing some depression. a lot of the symptoms you listed could be linked to depression, and it might be good to seek a therapist to talk things over with and to find out. they might have some good suggestions for helping you socialize and feel more like your old self.
good luck!
