Xanax long term?

ok ive been taking xanax 2 to 4 milligrams daily for5+ years now. until recently it was no big deal i have a prescription and actually need them as i have truly bad anxiety. panic attacks rapid heart beat. i know a lot of the issues were from the past drugs that ive done. extasy cocaine meth , etc. but now ive noticed that if i go just one day without xanax i get the tremors from inside and rapid heart rate.bad extremely bad anxiety and now i just turned 28 with 3 kids i dont know to continue taking this drug to help me with my stress or ask the doc to wean me off . i work fine and function great when i take it so thats no an issue im just worried about overall health. im getting older and already have small blood pressure problems any advice would be appreciated

Not sure exactly what your question is but, a few pointers on xanax. As others have said, by all means, do not cold turkey with this medicaiton. Main problem is seizures can occur. Can be very dangerous to stop without consult with your doctor!. It does not sound like you are abusing the drug, according to your description. As you probably know, xanax is often abused and can be one of the most difficult drugs to get off of. Not impossible. In your case, If it was agreed that you were going to stop, I would do either a slow weaning or, what I often do is switch patients over to clonazepam and then slowly wean off of that medication. The clonazipam or Klonopin, has a longer half life and tends to be gentler on the withdrawals. Do not do anything without the recommendation of your prescribing physician. Ask your doctor and let them tell you what they think you should do. Good luck.
