I've just lost my job - what the best way to stop myself getting too down?!
Question:
I've just lost my job - what the best way to stop myself getting too down?
I just cried for the first day. I have started job hunting again, but can't seem to be able to pull myself up from this lull. I just don't want to socialise or do anything as I feel really worthless.
Answers:
make for yourself a schedule:
get up every weekday morning as if you were preparing to go to work
leave your house at a set time
go to the state employment office
for one hour do a serious job search while in the state employment office
if you have any leads...take care of them
when you were working, let's say you would get up at five to be at work by seven...continue to get up at five...but, the employment office does not open until nine...what will you do for those two hours?
watch the news
read the paper
read something inspirational
eat a good breakfast
then go to work
don't be late
be the first one in the door at the state employment office
take care of business
maintain the sense of "going to work"
check for jobs
build your resume
network

when you have spent your hour or so at the state employment office...then go to the nearest library and spend another hour there
you should be back home by noon and no later than one o'clock
lay down on your bed after having a little bite of lunch
take a siesta
meditate
pray
focus
let's say you go to the state employment office on monday and you get a lead...check it out on tuesday...get up get ready put on your best "going to get a job attitude"
when you go to the state employment office...i suggest you dress informally...mercysakes it is summer time...wear shorts, sandals...be comfortable
but...on those days when you go for a JOB INTERVIEW...dress the part
you may say something like: i am not interested in the state employment agency...i had rather just look in the newspaper or consult with a private employment agency...that is just fine...on Monday do one or the other and on Wednesday and Friday do one or the other
The only days you want to go for a Job Interview are Tuesdays and Thursdays and if you don't have an interview scheduled for either of those days.......take the day off! Enjoy yourself! Read that book you checked out at the Library.
You must schedule yourself and do not allow yourself to become lethargic to the point you do not get to the employment office until after lunch...you must be the first there when they open the door!
STATE EMPLOYMENT AGENCY...this is your best bet! the people who work there are civil servants...your tax dollars are and have paid thier wage.
as far as socialising...take it easy...you are on a "sabbatical" of sorts...time for introspection
take a siesta in the afternoon
meditate
pray
focus
