Suicidal Friend?!

Question:

Suicidal Friend?

I have a friend who told me a few months ago that she tried to commit suicide. I talked her out of it, and she's told me recently that she really appreciated me being there for her, and that she hasn't tried it again after our talk. I know I should probably be relieved, but I'm still terrified that she'll try it again. I'm the only one that she's told, so if she decides to commit suicide, and succeeds, I'll feel completely guilty. I'm really confused about this situation...I want to help my friend and honor her wishes about keeping her attempts secret, but I'm also terrified to not tell someone. Advice?

My friend and I are both sixteen years old. She's an atheist, so I'm not sure that talking to any religious figure would work. As for approaching a teacher, it's doubly difficult because it's now summertime, and we both go to different schools.

Answers:

You should probably talk to your parents about it...and have them meet with her parents and talk it over.As a young teen I was suicidal also.I felt alienated and alone.Maybe she isn't getting enough attention at home or just doesn't feel wanted or loved by anyone.Make sure you get everyone to show how much they appreciate her.
