How can I help my mother help me?!

Question:

How can I help my mother help me?

I am depressed and she doesn't know what to do. I don't think there's much she can do, but she wants to do something. She says she can't stand me being like this, but I can't help it. She honestly does and says all the wrong things. She makes me feel worse, although I know she doesn't mean to. I feel like she's mad at me for being depressed. I feel like she's angry and resentful. She tries to diagnose me, read my mind, and she lists all this bad stuff for me to be depressed about, making me feel 10 times worse. She is critical of a lot that I do.

How can I help her deal with my depression? I can't bear to tell her that she makes me feel worse. How can I help her help me better?

Answers:

Both of you need to go see a counselor in order to be on the same note. Next, you will be refer (individual and both) to a Psychologist or Psychiatrist depending on the circumstances.
The difference between the both is that a Psychiatrist can prescribe medication and the other does not. Also, tell Mom to get this book at your local library:
Overcoming Depression by Demitri Papolos, M.D., and Janice papolos. Treatment and love is your ticket to a happy life.
