I have anxiety when I'm trying to sleep at night?!

Question:

I have anxiety when I'm trying to sleep at night?

My parents just bought me a loft bed and my dad spent 3 days of labor putting it together and now when I try to go to sleep in it I have little panic attacks and I get short of breath and I can't sleep and I get really emotional. I've only had the new bed for 3 nights and every one of those nights I have to get out of that bed and sleep on the floor for a few min. then I usually wake up get in my loft bed when I'm dead tired and its fine. But I can't live like that. I think I'm just getting myself worked up with the height of it and a little bit of claustrophobia. How can I just get myself to forget about those things and sleep? How can I get use to my loft bed without having panic attacks and without having to sleep on the floor first to get myself dead tired? (I can't get a new bed)

Answers:

Try sitting on your bed during the day. Then lie on it for a few minutes. Sit up there and read. Spend more time when you're not trying to sleep so it's less intimidating at bedtime.
