Does anyone out there have schizoid personality disorder? if so could you give me the lowdown on it?

ive had depression on/off for 8 years, but ive a feeling that its not depression atall.i hate people, i never want to socialise or have relationships, i work pretty much alone, (which i prefer as i used to work in retail and had a habit of coming across as really defensive and aggressive), im selfish and unsympathetic.am i right in thinking that these are classic symptons of schizoid personality disorder? my gp doesnt agree with me.i did try cbt last year, but all that did was combat a minor anxiety problem.

What you describe sounds nothing like Schizoid personality Disorder. Schizoid folks do not hate people, they simply have no emotional connection to others. They neither like nor hate them, they are simply indifferent. They often choose solitary jobs, and may do well in that environment when others would fail, because they experience no real need or desire for human companionship. They are not curious about other people and find "things" and hobbies of far greater interest. They fail to really bond with people or react to them one way or another. A Schizoid would have little ability to relate to the concept of depression.
Irritability certainly can be a symptom of Depression, though chronic irritability is more indicative of a personality disorder. You don't provide nearly enough info to ascertain a particular one as there are 4 personality disorders where it is a characteristic feature: Borderline, Narcissistic, Paranoid and Antisocial. The last 2 are unlikely to enter treatment voluntarily and Narcissists aren't frequent therapy candidates either as they blame everyone else and never see themselves as in the wrong. My money is on Borderline.
