Can Celexa cause panic attacks?!

Question:

Can Celexa cause panic attacks?

I've been on Celexa for almost two weeks now. I started with 10 mg/day and then worked up to 20 mg/day, and I've been having panic attacks almost every night and feel very anxious, almost borderline-panic, during the day. Is this a common side effect when first starting an antidepressant? Should I wait another week to see if it goes away?

Answers:

I went on Celexa for a while and experienced anxiety attacks almost daily. I felt like I was about to crawl OUT OF MY SKIN. It was terrible. After a couple months, I couldn't handle some of the other side effects and went on Lexapro, celexa's newer cousin. Similar formulary with fewer side effects. It takes about 3 weeks for your body to get used to the medicine, so stick it out another week or so, it is a great drug for some people. Good luck.
