What do i do if i think i have ADD?!

Question:

What do i do if i think i have ADD?

i am 18 and i am about to be a sophomore in college. ever since high school i suspected that i had ADD. it had not been recently when i saw a project that my sister did on the disease, that i without a doubt confirmed it for myself. i wanted to know if anyone know a hotline or something or what other steps should i take now that i have found out my problem?

another thing is that i brought the problem up with my parents numerous times. No one seems to want to do anything about me own discovery of the disorder...is there a way that i can just overcome it on my own.

Answers:

Don't consult a doctor, consult a Psychiatrist instead.

Because if you approach to a family doctor, they will normally refer you to a psychiatrist (wasting your time and money seeing the former).

And don't worry, IF you have ADD, it's curable! If you want to know more about ADD, go here:

All the best...

Regarding about your additional details:
Yeah, be frank I have panic disorder and I brought the matter to my parents too because it's really paralyzing my daily life but they just won't believe me. Whenever I bring up the matter, they will say: "Don't think too much" or "Don't anyhow say". What happened was because I'm a Singaporean, there's a school's health checkup every year for free - doctors will come to my school to examine us. I told the doctor about it and they referred me to the psychiatrist. That is the time when my parents believe what i was saying.

Well, in your case, IF your parents still doesn't believe you... do it yourself, just go to the psychiatrist by your ownself because consultation fees shouldn't cost much (making sure the service is public and not private).... especially first visit. Tell your psychiatrist to examine you and if you do happen to have ADD, ask him/her to write a letter or to tell your parents about it.

Lastly, don't do it on yourself... believe me, consult a psychiatrist because their therapy and meds makes life easier or else they won't be called Psychiatrist.

All the best, bro
