Do animals help with depression?!

Question:

Do animals help with depression?

I've been wanting to get a pet. I love animals, and hate living alone. However, I do work and go to school, but I would love to have a dog or cat whenever I come home, for companionship, and also for security. I haven't actually been diagnosed with depression or treated for anything, but the more I learn about the disease, the more I seem to see the symptons in myself. Lately, I've become more and more isolated, due to my own choice. Not sure why I've been so "inside my head lately", but I've just been wanting my own time, to work on myself. I also feel like I don't have anything to REALLY care for besides myself, and all my life, I have always had something to look after. So I was thinking that a pet may be a good idea, and could possibly help in these areas. What do you think? Thanks.

Answers:

A pet would be PERFECT for you. I heartily suggest it. Don't expect it to cure or solve everything, but I think it could definitely help with some of your issues.

Depression is normal. I went through it for almost 2 years without ever realizing it until I was out of it. I wish you luck with the future.
