Depression Hurts!!!?!

Question:

Depression Hurts!!!?

Why does depression effect your ability to go to school? It seems to REALLY make school much harder. There's such an extreme lack of motivation/caring/and just general 'wantingness', and I have such a hard time sticking to school now. I know i'm capable of good grades and excelling, evidence of my past, but now things just seem out of reach. It's as if i'm out of touch, and life/school isn't what it used to be. I want to get back "into" school. I'm currently a student, but I'm not really, for I feel like i'm not really there?? Why does depression take such a toll on your academics/schooling to such an extreme. Of all things, my academic career has probably taken the hardest blow since I developed depression (way before I even realized I had depression). Any thoughts on why this is? Thank You.

Answers:

I know EXACTLY what you mean. It's because depression takes such a toll, and if you're like me, no one (family, friends) understands because there's seemingly nothing wrong with you. This is especially true if you have a "normal" life (e.g., good fam, house, shelter, not poor, etc.) because then everyone is just like "shut up, you have nothing to be sad about" but that's just it...there IS NO CAUSE. And if your depression is clinical and caused by brain chemistry, then (and this is what people don't get unless they experience it personally) then it doesn't matter how good your life is or how smart you are or how much money you have or how hot you are...depression comes over like a slow wave and it sticks on you like hot molasses. I would 100% recommend therapy because it changed my life and made me a lot better.
