Help for my mentally sick girlfriend?!

Question:

Help for my mentally sick girlfriend?

My girlfriend is 27 years old and she has some severe mental disorders. She will not come out of her room, she will not eat. She drinks water and Orange juice only. She has severe panic attacks to the point where she feels she needs to go to the hospital. She is depressed, has severe anxiety, she is OCD and she is always worried she is dying from some disease or sickness. I don't know what to do for her. She is so sad and crys sometimes. She literally only leaves her bedroom to use the bathroom. She won't even consider leaving the house to see a doctor. What can I do to help her? Why is she like this? Any advice would help, please?

Answers:

First of all, what interventions has she used before? Is she seeing a Psychiatrist or Therapist or has she in the past?

To be honest, she sounds like she is very much needs a short inpatient stay at a hospital. Here they can quickly begin a medication and therapy regiment get her to a point where she is "stable" and then can be released and begin outpatient treatment as well as visits with a psychiatrist for medication management.

I am sure your poor girlfriend feels as though this is the end of the world and it could never get better. However, all the disorders you have described to me are very treatable, often anxiety disorders (panic with angoraphibia, ocd) as well as the depression are treated by the same types of medication.

Help convience your girl that she can get better and absolutely does not have to live this way. There is a beautiful life for her but she must take the steps to correct the dysfunctions in her brain mental illness is like any other disease and is not her fault!

Best o luck to you both. Its nice that you are so caring.
