why is guilt so hard to get rid of...i didnt do anything but i feel horrible for someone else

Thats exactly it- you are taking on someone elses feelings that you can do nothing about. Its hard enough to deal with guilt thats your won, but there you can do something. You can make amends, go apologize. You need to realize that you have no power over another person. Its their guilt, their responsibility to feel it, not yours.
