Question:

Why do I constantly put a wall up around me when dealing with other people and how do I overcome this?

This makes it really difficult for me to make friends.

Answers:

Just a guess, based on experiences of myself and others, you have been hurt by someone and you build walls to protect yourself from being hurt again. The solution is to look on people as friends and friends whom you have not met yet. Always give the other person the benefit of a doubt. You know your motives but you cannot know the motives of other people so always attribute the highest of motives to them. If they live up to your expectations you are both winners. If they don't you know that you have taken the high road, and they are the ones who are the losers. If you decide to be a good finder you will find good, if you decide to be a bad finder you will find bad. Remember, you don't get what you want or what your deserve, you get what you expect. If you live by this code you will find the walls tumbling down and you will soon have more friends than you know what to do with. Someone referred to How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. That is an excellent book.
