Ibuprofen and Panadol over a week?!

Question:

Ibuprofen and Panadol over a week?

My friend has been taking panadol and ibuprofen like candy for over a week now. At first he took 30 panadols then he has been taking ibupfrofen along with adding to the panadol. He says if he takes enough that over a period of time he will become ill and die. He is very depressed. but looks okay. What will happen to him if he is telling the truth. Unsure, and worried - please help.

This guy needs help.

It is okay to take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen for short periods together as they have different properties. However, both are up to a maximum of 8 per day, so you are looking at 16 tablets per day for around 3 days maximum.

Ibuprofen reacts with the stomach and will eventually irritate the lining of the gut making ulcers and intestinal problems. However, the Paracetamol (Panadol) will affect his liver badly. It is a toxin and the damage to the liver can be fatal and can often be silent for a period of time.

He MUST stop taking this quantity of medication urgently and needs to seek medical advice. I strongly recommend liver tests already. If he refuses to do anything, you may need to take charge and request assistance on his behalf. May make you unpopular or even look silly, if he is stringing you along, but if he is telling you the truth, it may save his life.
