How should I tell my mom I think I'm depressed?!

Question:

How should I tell my mom I think I'm depressed?

I've been feeling real down lately and I don't want to do anything, just sit around. I get real mad when people yell at me and they have no reason to, I just feel unwanted and hurt. I think about all the bad things in my life and catch myself and wonder why I'm thinking this, it just won't get out of my head. Please help. I'm 15 and I don't do drugs like some people probably would have asked...

Answers:

first of all
know that some depression is caused because your brain isn't producing chemicals and hormones like it should
this is what makes you feel sad for no reason
it is an illness
your body isn't working right

like the person before me said
some doctors hesitate to give antidepressants to people under 18 because they are known to sometimes increase suicidal thought
that doesn't mean that a doctor won't perscribe you antidepressants though
a therapist might help you sort through your feelings too

i was very afraid to first tell my my how i was feeling
unfortunately this also meant that i couldn't get the help i needed
my mother first found out about my depression when the school guidance counselor called her telling her that i had tried to commit suicide

if you tell your mother now
you will hopefully never have to get to that point
because she will be able to get you the help you need

to tell her, i would suggest first telling an adult that you trust
this could be a teacher, a friends mom, or a youth pastor
any adult that you trust
then after you tell them
ask if they'll help you tell your mom
that way you won't feel like you're facing her alone
ask if the three of you can sit down to tell her something serious
if necessary, ask your mother beforehand to keep an open mind
together you and the adult can tell her about your depression
and ask for help

i hope that you will be able to conquer this battle with depression
because you can
it's very possible
