Self-harming?!

Question:

Self-harming?

How many of you self-harm?
People that do may understand what i mean...why does it feel so good as in relieves tension and stress.
I cut myself with scissors all up my arm, until my boyfriend got VERY upset i promised to stop but when i get angry i go to my room and do it again but with objects such as a broken ornament, plastic and even paper (cuts). i went for a walk with my boyfriend when i went to stay with him in Wales i got frustrated cus we got lost and he shouted at me so i sat down and managed to get scratched with some thorn bushes then i picked up a stone and scratched my arms i told him i fell but im not sure he believes that.

so what is it about self-harm that makes people feel better?

Answers:

Scientifically, it releases endorphins in your brain, which are natural painkillers and attach to the same receptors as morphine and such, which just make you feel good.

I did it to feel real and in posession of my body. I would dissociate and needed something to bring me back to reality. It's also a coping mechanism to create physical pain to alleviate emotional pain. I've gotten better at finding other things to do.

It can get dangerous. Please be careful, and get some counseling to learn more productive coping mechanisms.
