Has anyone felt like this?!

Question:

Has anyone felt like this?

I am taking some psychology classes as electives. Ever since i started reading the textbooks i started having bad thoughts. I am on zoloft and kolonapin for anxiety. I read about people killing themselves and others and stuff like that and it has really impacted me. I keep thinking why , why , why do people do things like that. I have read about people losing control of themselves. I am no way suicidal. I have a fear of death but after reading this stuff i have developed a fear of losing control. Can anyone give me any advice on how to change my way of thinking. Its like i have become obsessed with thinking why people do things like that and what makes them do it. My psychatrist says i have a anxiety problem and because i cam off zoloft cold turkey , my problem didnt go away. I felt ok till i took the psychology course. Can someone please advice me on what to do. I have a one yr old child who needs me and right now she is not enjoying me because i am lost in my thoughts all the time.

Answers:

If you're afraid of 'losing control' then you have to gain control over your thoughts, gain control over your reactions TO your thoughts, and focus more on things outside of yourself. I think when people become obsessed with their own thinking (often these are negative self-defeating thoughts), you need to learn how to turn off the switch and change your nervous energy into something more positive. You will have learn how to put your energy towards more positive activities.. maybe then your anxiety will lessen. We can't control everything around us, but we can control how we react to things that are around us. Good luck.. hope this helps.
