Dealing with a maniac/depressive?!

Question:

Dealing with a maniac/depressive?

Does anyone here have experience in dealing with people in a maniac phase? What are the characteristics of this mental illness? Any tips on how to deal with a person with such condition? Your help is much appreciated.

Answers:

I myself am a schizophrenic, but also go through manic periods. Most of the time they last about 3 days, though it varies from person to person. I usually don't sleep during them, and have lots of energy, moving nonstop and talking 90 miles a min. Its like I'm a machine that doesnt need sleep and cant be turned off. I usually come up with lots of creative ideas during a manic spell, and my house is usually spotless. My tips for dealing with someone when they are manic is to make sure they dont do anything to hurt themselves or others, and I would fix them some chammomile tea to help calm them some.......its not a medication so it wont hurt them and has no side effects. Potassium is also good for people who are manic, it helps calm you too. I wouldnt upset a person who was manic, that can be dangerous. Because their senses are usually very heightened, so they feel emotion very strongly. When I'm manic, I have a stronger sense of taste, smell, sight, touch, and hearing than others do. So things can annoy me more easily. If you want to talk further just IM me when you see that I'm online.

God Bless You!
